Memories with music

Hello Lovelies

Today's post is all about music, and in particular how certain music can remind me of certain things, bringing back memories both good and bad.

Last night we were all sat watching T In the Park a music festival, and one of the acts we watched were The Killers, we are all massive fans of The Killers in our house and in particular Nichole, she has been a huge fan since she was around 13 years old and it's fair to say she has a bit of a crush on Brandon Flowers the lead singer, who I must admit is rather nice looking.

The Killers played an amazing set at T in the park, playing some of their new material and some old including Nichole's favourite song ever Mr Brightside. They also played Read My Mind and it was when they played this it automatically brought back memories for me, sad, worried, anxious memories of a time when Nichole was desperately ill with her Anorexia, she played The Killers all the time in her room and Read My Mind and Bones remind me of a very horrible time.

It made me think of other songs and how music can be so important and remind us of so much and bring back memories good or bad, so I thought I would share with you just a few important songs, why they are important and the meaning behind them.

Eleanor Rigby & Penny Lane - The Beatles

These songs remind me of my dad, when I was a little girl I went through a phase of being frightened at night and especially in the middle of the night, my dad used to lie on my bed or in it with me and make up stories off the top of his head, usually using whatever pattern or picture I had on my Pyjamas, and he used to sing, and often sang songs by The Beatles and these 2 songs in particular remind me of my dad.

Mr Tambourine Man - The Byrds

This is one of my mums favourites and always reminds me of her.

Groovy Kind of Love - Phil Collins

This is the song, well not this one but the original version that my mum and dad had for their first dance at their wedding in 1968. When the film Buster was released and this was on the soundtrack my mum told me that the original version was the first dance song for her and my dads wedding.

Gypsy Woman - Crystal Waters

This song was in the charts when I was heavily pregnant with Nichole and when she was a tiny baby, I used to dance round my bedroom in my heavily pregnant state to this song.

Everything I do, I do it for you - Bryan Adams

This is Nichole's song, when she was born it was number 1 and actually stayed at number 1 for 16 weeks, the day after Nichole was born and all my visitors had gone home, I was worried I wouldn't know what to do or how to be a mum I think because I was so young, and I told Nichole I would always do my best no matter what, and I always have. The words were very fitting at the time of our little conversation all be it 1 way.

I Believe I Can Fly - R Kelly

This is Alicia's song, when I had Alicia I had a C. Section and the radio was playing in the operating theatre and as Alicia was born this song was playing, it is really fitting though as it is all about being what you want to be and doing what you want to do, and if you can dream it you can do it, Alicia had a hard time during labour and was resuscitated at birth so it was a fitting song to be born to.

Coldplay - The Scientist

The day I was told I had a terminal illness, I came home from the hospital with Simon who had booked time off work and we had a really big talk about everything &  I'd said that he could leave if he wanted to as I didn't want him to be with me out of sympathy or duty and we had this massive chat and there were lots of tears, we always have music on in our house and this song came on and always reminds me of that day now, kind of sad really if you listen to the words.

Urban Cookie Collective - The Key The Secret

Donna's favourite song ever, she loved this song and always danced round like a mad woman and sung her heart out if it came on the radio, happy memories.

The Killers  - Mr Brightside

Nichole's favourite song ever, always makes me smile.

Destiny's Child - Independant Woman

Lissy loves Beyonce and Destiny's Child and this song in particular reminds me of her and always makes me smile.

Five - If Ya Gettin Down

Happy times, happy memories, nursing, fun times with friends and my girls.

Simon Webbe - No Worries

Played at Donna's funeral, no explanation needed.

All 4 One - I Swear

My very favourite patient when I was a nurse, this was her favourite song, the first dance song from her wedding and also played at her funeral, some people touch your life so much you never forget them and she was one of those people.

Irene Cara - Flash Dance ( What a Feeling)

I used this music for an audition for a very important gymnastics team pick, and got through, amazing memories, and a time I was proud of myself.

Bros - I Owe You Nothing

Carefree summer teenage days with friends, lying on the grass in the park with my friends and singing, probably badly to this.

The Happy Mondays - Lazyitis

Reminds me of being a young mum, summer time and sleep deprivation!

Travis - Flowers In The Window & The Cure Friday I'm In Love

These songs remind me of Simon, Flowers In The Window is 'our song' the words are very fitting for the first time we met up as boyfriend and girlfriend instead of just friends. Friday I'm In Love, reminds me of Simon, when we first met he worked in Suffolk during the week and came home every Friday and went back to Suffolk on Sunday and he always said "Friday I'm In Love" because he got to see me, bless him.

So there are a few of the songs that remind me of both happy times and sad times too, I have loads and loads and could have gone on forever, but I think I have put enough down for now. I hope you enjoyed this post, it is different from my usual posts but after watching the festival on TV last night it got me thinking and I wanted to share some of the songs with you that mean a lot to me or remind me of certain things. Music is quite a powerful thing I suppose, it can make you laugh one minute and cry the next, not many things can do that I suppose.

Do you have songs that bring back memories or have songs that are 'your song' with your loved ones? Let me know in the comments.

Thank you for reading, much love as always
