My Holiday "Gel" Nails

Hello Lovelies,

I usually have a gel manicure when I am going on my holidays I love the look a gel manicure gives, the shine and opaque look of the nails plus the wear time is around 2 weeks so brilliant for a holiday but and it's a big but, at the salon I go to a gel manicure is £27.00 and to me £27.00 is a lot of money.

I purchased the new Essie Gel Setter Top Coat a few weeks before my holidays and decided then I would bite the bullet and this year I would have a "DIY gel manicure" for my holiday nails and save some money, all the time keeping my fingers crossed the Essie wouldn't let me down. I decided to use one of the pink or coral polishes I had in my collection, that is until I was served in Boots when picking up our sun tan lotion and the sales assistant had lovely nail polish on, I asked her what it was and she said it was the Barry M Gelly Hi Shine In Grapefruit, it was a beautiful coral/pink shade and a perfect holiday shade but I have had this shade in the past and it chipped in less than 24 hours (see this post) so I was a little worried but I bought the polish anyway thinking maybe just maybe the Essie top coat would be as good as it claimed.

The night before my holiday I had my nails and toe nails painted with the Grapefruit polish using 3 coats and then 1 coat of the Essie Gel Setter Top Coat I was so pleased with the look of my nails and toe nails they were the perfect holiday shade for me and I thought they looked lovely.

I loved how glossy my nails looked and they did look just like I'd had a gel manicure and pedicure I was so impressed. I loved the shade of the polish and couldn't believe I hadn't re purchased it sooner but maybe my bad experience of chipping last time put me off? I went on my holidays and was asked by several people if I'd had gel nails for my holidays and what shade my nails and toes were and they were shocked when I told them it was nail polish, I had taken the polish with me as well as 2 Essie polishes and the Gel Setter top coat just incase my nails chipped or I fancied a change.

My nails lasted really well and then on day 8 of my holidays I got a tiny chip on my thumb nail, but to be honest they needed re painting as they had grown so much, my nails grow like wild fire on holidays, do your nails grow fast in the sun? I decided I would remove the polish and try a different one for the second week of my holidays but I was so impressed with my nails and how well they lasted and that the shine didn't fade at all and my nails looked exactly the same 8 days later as the day they were painted.

The wear time and shine and overall look of my nails is completely down to the Essie top coat especially after my last experience of using the grapefruit polish but that said it is a beautiful colour and I would highly recommend it, and if you are like me and would usually have a gel manicure for your holidays give the Essie Gel Setter top coat a try it really is amazing. I can't wait to use it over a french manicure I bet it will look amazing!

If you would like to try the Barry M Hi Shine polish in Grapefruit you can find it here on ASOS where it is currently on sale for just £2.39 (was £3.99) or on the Very website for £4.00 or from Boots for £3.99 and you can find the Essie Gel top coat from Boots for £9.99.

Do you usually have a gel manicure for your holidays? Would you consider a DIY gel manicure?

Thank you for reading, much love as always

Zoe x
